Amanda believes that all Australians deserve access to affordable healthcare. One of the ways the Government is helping with the cost of living is by keeping the price of medicines down. The Government has frozen the maximum cost of common PBS prescription medicines so that people will be paying no more than $31.60 for PBS medication until the end of 2025.
Since January 2023, patients in the South have saved over $2.21 million on medication. For those eligible for concessions, the price of PBS medication will be frozen at $7.70 until the end of 2029. Amanda knows this is making a real difference for people, particularly those who have multiple prescriptions to fill on a regular basis.
This builds on the work already done to make it easier to access health services. In July, the Government invested $900 million in additional Medicare rebate funding, the second largest increase to Medicare rebates in 30 years. More people have been able to access bulk-billing doctors with bulk-billing rates improving each month since the Albanese Government tripled the bulk-billing incentive last year.
The Morphett Vale Medicare Urgent Care Clinic, funded by the Albanese Labor Government, continues to help ease the pressure on our hospital emergency departments. Since opening in December 2023, there have been more than 6,014 visits. Medicare Urgent Care Clinics provide bulk-billed, walk-in urgent care for people when they need it.
