Southern Coastline Unlocked

For more than two decades, one of the Southern Suburb’s most beautiful stretches of coastline has been locked away, inaccessible to the public as part of the former Port Stanvac site.

1.7 kilometres of beach and foreshore is now confirmed to be returned to the public, where it belongs.

For years Amanda has fought alongside residents, businesses and community groups, gathering thousands of petition signatures in support of returning this land to the community and it’s great to see real progress being made to towards this goal.

Residents of the Southern Suburbs will finally have access to the southern beach and foreshore for the first time in generations.

As part of the announcement this week, the coastline and 40 hectares of coastal reserve at Port Stanvac will officially be unlocked as part of the newly announced South Beach, opened and accessible to the public for the first time in generations.

Importantly, a crucial missing link in our coastal walkway will also be completed, creating an uninterrupted 70 kilometre coastal trail and opening up new opportunities for recreation, tourism and community enjoyment.

This is an exciting step towards revitalising the former industrial site into a vibrant part of our Southern Suburbs community that everyone can enjoy.

South Beach will also bring 3,600 new homes, a mixed-use town centre with new community facilities and services and support more than 1,700 jobs.

The approval of South Beach represents one of the most significant urban renewal projects ever undertaken in the Southern Suburbs.
