Majors Road Concept Plan Update

Friday, 21 July 2023

For many years I have advocated alongside the community for access to the Southern Expressway at Majors Road.

Last year the Albanese Federal Labor Government and the Malinauskas State Labor Government committed $120 million to construct an entry and exit ramp at Majors Road.

I’m pleased to advise that this week the contract to construct the project was awarded – with major construction expected to begin in the last quarter of 2023 and final project completion to occur at the end of 2025. 245 full-time-equivalent jobs will be supported each year over the construction period, with over 90 per cent of all the hours worked on this project coming from local workers.

The project will improve travel times and safety for over 13,00 vehicles using Majors Road daily and will also benefit the 74,000 vehicles that travel on the Expressway between Darlington and the Reynella Interchange each day.

The concept design for the project incorporates feedback from local residents, community organisations and local businesses, and includes a strong focus on preservation and conservation activities at Glenthorne National Park – Ityamaiitpinna Yarta.

The project will also include a new plant nursery and garden area to be operated and maintained jointly by the Friends of Glenthorne and Riding for the Disabled SA.

More details on the project are available at: www.dit.sa.gov.au/infrastructure/road_projects?majors_road_interchange

I’m delighted to see this project coming to fruition, and I look forward to seeing our community enjoying the benefits in the years to come.

I will continue to keep you updated on the progress of this important project.
