Child care fees up almost 35 per cent under Liberal Government

Sunday, 19 January 2020

The Government’s latest data has revealed the cost of child care has skyrocketed by 34.6 per cent since the Liberals were elected in 2013.

Despite the Government promising its new child care system would put downward pressure on fees, fees have climbed 5.1 per cent in twelve months and 3 per cent in this quarter alone.

The cost of long day care – the type of child care most people use – is now an average of $14,832 per year. That is up $3,816 since the election of the Liberal Government.

The Government continues to pretend there is “nothing to see here”, while Australian families are being crippled under soaring child care fees.

The Government has broken its promise to families that the new system would bring fees down, and they have absolutely no plan to control skyrocketing fees.

It is time for the Government to review their failed child care system and act urgently to provide relief for families.

High quality early education and care must be affordable and accessible for every Australian child.
