Welcome to Amanda Rishworth’s Website

Thank you for visiting my web page.

 The Gillard Government and I are committed to implementing a new reform agenda for the South.

 We have delivered on our election commitments including, $7.5 million upgrade of the intersection of Victor Harbor Road and Main South Road, $3.5 million on water re-use project in the McLaren Vale region, and $2 million for the Aldinga Recreation Centre.

 However, there is still more to be done. I will continue to fight hard, both in parliament and in our community, to build a competitive region capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century.

Together we can make the South a stronger community.

Southern residents to benefit from historic health reform

The Member for Kingston, Amanda Rishworth, said the people of Southern Adelaide were set to benefit after the Government yesterday delivered the biggest health reforms since Medicare.

Ms Rishworth said these historic reforms mean the Commonwealth is now the majority funder of the entire health system which will deliver better health and better hospitals for all Australians, including the people of Southern Adelaide.

This National Health and Hospitals Network will deliver:

  • 1,300 new hospital beds and 2500 new aged care beds;
  • 20,000 extra young people get access to mental health services;
  • 6000 new doctors;
  • Emergency department waiting times capped at four hours;
  • Elective surgery delivered on time for 95 per cent of patients;
  • A Commonwealth takeover of primary care and aged care.
  • Local Hospital Networks will run single or small groups of public hospitals.

“For the first time in the nation’s history, our hospitals will be funded nationally and run locally here in Southern Adelaide,” Ms Rishworth said.

“Local Hospital Networks will receive funds and be responsible for making decisions on the day to day operations of hospitals within their network.

“That means local services here in Southern Adelaide will be more responsive to local needs and be directly accountable for hospital performance,” Ms Rishworth said.

Ms Rishworth said the Labor Government will also have funding and policy responsibility for GP and primary health care services and for aged care services.

“The Government has taken decisive action to deliver better health and better hospitals for all Australians now,” Ms Rishworth said.

“This is in stark contrast to Tony Abbott, who as Health Minister for 5 years, ripped $1 billion out of Australia’s hospitals and capped GP Training numbers despite a massive shortage of GPs.

Nation Building Fund - Victory for the South

Dear Southern Adelaide resident

Labor Government delivers on rail line to Seaford

I am pleased to confirm the extension of the rail line to Seaford is full steam ahead following a $291 million investment from the Labor Government.

The 5.5km extension of the Noarlunga line to Seaford will provide much needed infrastructure for the future prosperity of Southern Adelaide. New stations will be built at Seaford Meadow and Seaford rail terminus, and a 1.2km bridge over the Onkaparinga River.

This project has overwhelming support in the community and together we have won a huge victory for the South. The rail line will be a dramatic boost for residents and local businesses.

The project is expected to commence construction in 2010.

After years of inaction and delays, the Labor Government is ending the blame game on infrastructure - no more empty promises.
