Standing Committee on Health and Ageing

The Standing Committee on Health and Ageing is to carry out inquiries in to matters referred to it by the House of Representatives or a Minister of the Commonwealth Government. The Committee can also inquire into matters raised in annual reports of Commonwealth Government departments and authorities or reports by the Commonwealth Auditor-General.

Current Enquiry

The Committee is currently inquiring in to the Roundtable forum on regional health issues jointly affecting Australia and the South Pacific.

The roundtable will complement the Committee’s earlier discussions in Cairns and the Torres Strait on cross-border health concerns, including, malaria, dengue fever, and the spread of communicable diseases such as drug resistant tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.

The Committee invites interested persons and organisations to make submissions addressing the terms of reference by Friday 25 September 2009. Please refer to our brochure called preparing a submission for more information.

In order to facilitate electronic publishing of submissions, the Committee would prefer them to be emailed to haa.reps@aph.gov.au or sent on disk or CD-ROM to the Committee Secretariat in Microsoft Word® or Portable Document Format (PDF).

The Committee has recently tabled the report into the Roundtable forum on impotence medications, Treating Impotence: Roundtable forum on impotence medications in Australia.

Standing Committee on Communications

The Standing Committee on Communications conducts inquiries into matters referred to it by the House of Representatives or a Minister of the Commonwealth Government.

The committee is responsible for the portfolio areas covering:

• Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy Portfolio;
• Finance and Deregulation Portfolio (specifically the Australian Government Information Management Office and the National Archives of Australia); and
• Attorney-General's Portfolio (specifically Classification Board, Classification Review Board, and the Office of Film and Literature Classification).

Current Enquiry

The Committee is currently inquiring into cyber crime and its impact on Australian consumers and the wider community.

The Committee will report on the nature and incidence of cyber crime in Australia including financial fraud and theft of personal information and the impact of malicious software such as viruses and trojans.

The Committee has recently closed submissions and will soon be calling upon wittnesses as part of their enquiry.

Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Innovation

The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Innovation is established for the 42nd Parliament under Standing Order 215. The committee is responsible for the portfolio areas covering:

• Attorney-General's, specifically Australian Customs Service;
• Education, Employment and Workplace Relations;
• Finance and Deregulation, specifically the Australian Industry Development Corporation;
• Foreign Affairs and Trade, specifically the Export Finance and Insurance Corporation;
• Health and Ageing, specifically the Gene Technology Regulator;
• Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, specifically the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, Industry Research and Development Board, and Pooled Development Funds Registration Board;
• Resources, Energy and Tourism Portfolio, specifically Tourism Australia; and
• Treasury Portfolio, specifically the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and the Productivity Commission.
  

Current Enquiry

On 25 November 2009 the Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Senator the Hon Kim Carr, asked the Committee to undertake an inquiry into Australia's international research collaboration.

The Committee invites interested persons and organisations to make submissions addressing the terms of reference by Friday, 29 January 2010.
